The cloth
Made for more than one Christmas
Every tablecloth, runner and napkin is a medium-weight 100% cotton with a soft, matt finish, hemmed on all four sides and machine washable.
The designs are printed in our Manchester studio, and each design’s tablecloth, runner and napkins share exactly the same colours.
The Christmas table
How to lay a Christmas table
Work from the cloth up and nothing has to be moved twice.
-
The cloth
Choose a cloth 40 to 60 cm longer than the table, so it hangs 20 to 30 cm over each end, and lay it with the centre fold running down the middle.
-
The runner
Lay the runner down the centre, with about 20 cm over each end. A plain runner suits a printed cloth, and a printed runner a plain one.
-
Plates and napkins
Allow about 60 cm for each place. Set the plates, then fold a napkin onto each one, or into a tree.
-
Cutlery and glasses
Forks on the left, knives on the right with the blades facing the plate, and the glass just above the knife.
-
Candles and crackers
Candles go down the runner, low enough to talk over. Lay a cracker across each plate.
-
Greenery last
Tuck sprigs of fir, ivy or rosemary between the candles, and light them just before everyone sits down.

More about Christmas table linen
Tablecloths, runners and napkins
Every design comes as a Christmas tablecloth, a table runner and cloth napkins, printed in the same colours, so the three match exactly. Each is sold on its own: choose the cloth to fit your table, then add a runner and napkins in sets of four or six.
The designs
Toiles drawn like old engravings: the Village Toile, with its church and cottages, and the Fir Forest Toile. Birds and winter flowers: Robins and Christmas Roses, Partridge and Pear, Turtle Doves and Mistletoe, Amaryllis, Mistletoe and Gilded Ivy. Trees: Stag Woodland, Spruce Stand and Pine Bough. And the patterns: Tartan, Ticking Stripe, Signature Stripe, Stars and plain colours.
Choosing a colour
Red is the traditional Christmas tablecloth. Green and navy are darker and look richer by candlelight, burgundy sits between the two, and ivory, gold and silver suit white china, brass and glass. Browse red, green, navy, burgundy, ivory and white, gold and silver Christmas tablecloths, or read more about choosing a colour.
A size for every table
Rectangular tablecloths run from 180 to 500 cm long, all 144 cm wide, and the 144 × 144 cm square fits a small square or round table. For a long table there are 280, 320, 400 and 500 cm cloths, or a cloth made to your exact length.
Why cotton
Every tablecloth, runner and napkin in the range is 100% cotton, the traditional cloth for table linen. It takes a printed design crisply and hangs in soft folds over the edge of the table.
